For nearly a decade, Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation (THPF) has organized Tucson Modernism Week (TMW) - endeavoring to bring dynamic local, regional and national speakers, highlight hidden modernist treasures scattered throughout our community and present the insightful - and often overlooked - history of our region's mid-century heritage.
TMW Guide 2017 explores the dynamic legacy of woman in Southern Arizona who influenced perceptions of the American West. Tucson Architect Judith Chafee, fashion pioneer Cele Peterson and the modern dance of Barbara Mettler. Also of focus is the work of Japanese-American landscape designer, Taro Akutagawa, whose fusion gardens eptiomize the cultural transformation of the Southwest in the 1950s & '60s.
Since 2015, Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation has annually published the Tucson Modernism Week Guide.
