Sunshine Shop is located in Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation's Hirsh's Shoes Bldg. The Sunshine Mile mid-century modern retail strip location has influenced the shop to focus on modern design, and contemporary + modern art.
Specializing in Mid Century Modern furniture, we also highlight Arizona and regionally crafted jewelry, art and goods from the modernist period through contemporary. As well, we partner with Cabat Studio, DeGrazia Archive and Etherton Gallery to represent Arizona's finest artists from our Sonoran Desert borderlands.
Sunshine Shop is located in the retail front of the historic Hirsh's Shoes Building, along the Sunshine Mile. Sid Hirsh retired in 2016 and the Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation became the keepers of this important mid-century modern icon.
A Bit of Tucson History
Hirsh’s Shoes Building, built 1954 / Bernard Friedman, Architect
Mrs. David Hirsh commissioned Bernard Friedman to design this building as a free standing shop. Though now surrounded by other buildings, it is still owned and operated by the Hirsh Family. As an ideal example of an open front facade, the interior and exterior zones are integrated. Angled walls create a dynamic entrance with a sloping exposed frame canopy flanked on either side by cantilevered display cases and a planter. Large neon letterforms are mounted on top of the canopy.
